Health Care (Eye Hospital)

The Organisation’s goal is twofold firstly the preventive and curative treatment of blindness and vision impairment in western part of Odisha and secondly, raising awareness of the issues in the community. In order to make good eye care available and accessible for all in the project, SCD works with local authorities and passes its knowledge and experience on to specialists, health care workers and support staff who play a role in the eye care network. In this way we contribute to the realization of Vision 2020. A global campaign that aims to make eye care accessible to everyone by the year 2020.

Our unique patient care –mix and the number of people we treat mean that our clinicians have expertise in ophthalmic listed below.

Education

The community at large is often unaware of the potential of children with special needs. In the popular mind, special needs are usually identified with very low expectations. Parent should believe in the value of educating children with special needs. The higher the expectations, the higher will be their acceptance in the family. All the children with special needs must be enrolled in primary schools. After the assessment of their disabilities by a team of a doctor, a psychologist, and a special educator, in schools, the child will be placed in appropriate educational settings.

In 1985 SCD has started a residential disabled school from 1st to 7th standard having all facilities i.e. hostel for boys and girls. Educated and experienced teaching staffs for teaching the students. Till date many students have been passed out from the school and rehabilitated in various livelihood activities. Besides the school we work in the community for education of Children with disabilities

Micro Enterprises

Financial support to PWDs

Micro-finance has helped millions of people across the world become more self-reliant by providing them with much-needed funding, which otherwise was either very hard for them to access or not available to them at all, to build sustainable sources of income (livelihoods). Micro-finance lending has proven that the poor are creditworthy and sincere in fulfilling their debt obligations in a timely manner. However, PWD continue to face high levels of doubt and cynicism when it comes to borrowing for self-employment or entrepreneurial endeavours. Hence SCD took small step towards the economic development of PWDs. The organisation supported 10 PWDs to start petty business in their own places.

Agriculture

Agriculture Training to PWDs

Before entering into a new venture even if it is to be small-scale enterprise, a person needs to have sufficient knowledge of the work involved in order to make the business successful. In several cases, training is needed in order to learn more about the technical aspect and procedures that will ensure success. This training is often not readily available to persons with disabilities. Several vocational training centres will not accept persons with disabilities because they assume that such person will slow down the learning process of other participants. Financing the necessary training is therefore another issue that cannot be ignored. How much does it cost? Who will Finance it? With the financial help of CBM, SCD took initiative to provide agriculture training to PwD farmers for their food security. 25nos of PWDs farmers were taken agriculture training at SCD. They are practicing same till date and getting benefit.
